Happy Tails! - Forever home updates
raina (celeste) - 2010
How cute is she?!?!?! Happy 3rd week anniversary Raina (formerly Celeste)! We renamed her Raina (meaning wise guardian in German and queen in Spanish), which fits her to a T! She is doing really well and has gained 3 lbs! She loves to patrol her yard and enjoys running the fence line especially when the neighbors come by with their horses. She also enjoys trying to snag a squirrel or two! She has bonded closely with Rick, but knows Robin is her mommy. Each morning she either blocks Robin from leaving to go to work or wraps her paws around Robin's ankle, which looks like she is saying "mommy don't go!" She enjoys Sunday brunches because she gets her special treats and keeps us entertained by throwing her squeaky balls around and catching them. She is just too cute! She is curious about the pool, but it is just a bit too chilly for her to get in yet. She seems to realize she is now in her forever home and we are now working on her doggie manners. She is a quick study, so we don't expect this to take very long. Raina is such a character to watch and she really is all personality and our little angel!

layla (louise) - 2010
It has been about 3 months since we have taken in Louise. With her being separated from Thelma, we renamed her Layla. She was very shy and timid, especially around men (something must have happened previously), and was a little scared in her new house and around 2 cats that weren't sure what to make of her. It has taken some work, but she has accepted us as her people. She has grown attached to me and, even more so, my wife. She is still quite hesitant around strange people and dogs, but is getting better with each new introduction. She LOVES to go outside and has twice daily walks, and we have been going to the park every week as well. She did well on a recent trip to Houston and had a good time traveling downtown to see the bats. One of our cats, who had been around dogs previously, has adopted Layla too and they play together often. Layla and our other cat are still working a few things out. She is very sweet around the house, and will come up to let you know it is time for her to get some attention. She has learned a few new tricks and commands, and has become, as promised, a very special addition to our family. Thank you for everything!

brees (celeste) - 2010
Hello everybody I just had to tell you about the new collar and leash my new mommy gave me. It is pink because I am a female. I go back to my new vet Dr. Joyner in about 2 weeks. I think I was told 13 August for my final heart worm checkup. My new parents got me flea stuff and heart worm medicine. I also get some neat treats when I am good which is most of the time. I get along with Lucky pretty good now and I try not to grab all the food. My dad tells me no bad dog when I take more than my own. When I hear no bad dog I know that I no treats for me so I like hearing good dog than I get treats.
Well since I last wrote to you I have been training with a leash on me but since I've been being good I don't have to have the leash on me unless we are going for a walk. I still get a squirt every now and again because I still think chasing CopyKat is nifty. Truth be told I am kind of nervous of her because I still haven't figured her and my space but I am learning. I am going to put a picture or two so you can see me and how big I am. I weigh over 80 lbs. I am getting pretty tall too. Well I added more than two but I hope you like them. My dad uses a telephone to take my pictures isn't that silly you are supposed to use a camera. Well I guess that is it for now. l will write again another time okay. Bye talk to you later. Breeze Henning! |
kaiser (taiko) - 2010
Just wanted to share this week's happenings with you. Kaiser seems to be getting over his cough and is really acting like a puppy. Running, jumping and pouncing, he is running around the place like a crazy man, jumping in and out of the pool like he is in a competition to see how many times he can do it in 30 seconds and pouncing on the grasshoppers after he has hunted them down. He is learning the routine of being brushed before the morning walks. He no longer sleeps in the kennel last Saturday he started to sleep in the bedroom the kennel is there however he just walks into it and then finds the memory mattress at the foot of our bed more comfortable. And he is demanding more attention by the day he loves for you to get on the floor and play with him. Lastly I think he has gained more weight he is eating about five cups of food a day we feed him twice a day. I was going to send pictures however I didn't get them down loaded from the camera I will work on that for the next update. Have a great day!!

beau - 2010
Our Beau is doing so well, progressing all the time into the family. My grandson just loves him and hugs him continually, and tonight Beau licked his face, so Marek was in seventh heaven. He went up to everyone wagging his tail, and just was so relaxed like this was an everyday occurrence. Too cute.Yes he is just perfect!! Everyone in my immediate family that has met him is in love with him. Hoping all is well with you.

sachi (prada) - 2010
An update from her home:culture and Mikela is fluent and we thought that this name fit her well. It means child of joy. A joy she is. We have gotten her on a routine of long walks morning and night and a short walk (being about a mile) in the afternoon. We also play with the hose in the backyard and we have been working dailyon her manners. She has come a long way since Wednesday. She has met her brother cats and we are still working on harmony in the house. But I think everyone will adjust just fine. Here are a few pictures from our past few days. We had our first bath at dirty dog and you'll notice a theme of sleeping as she adjusts to all this walking. We notice her stamina picking up over the weekend. We adore her and thank you so much for the opportunity to meet this lovely lady and bring her into our home.

koa (kannon) & hula (salsa) - 2010
We felt it was time to genuinely say thank you to all that you did to help us find the two newest members of our family. As you know we recently adopted Koa (Kannon) and Hula (Salsa). it has been over a month and we wanted to give you an update on how they are doing.
It took Koa about ten minutes to feel comfortable in our house. It helped that Hula (his buddy) was there too. Koa and Hula play all day long. It is a fun thing to watch short runs. Hula isn't quite ready for long distances. But they sure have fun. Koa behaves. And Hula behaves because Koa behaves and we are just so happy to have them in our house. They do well with grandmas, grandpas and small kids. The only problem is Koa is a bit curious of our cat (scared). Our cat can be a bit territorial. About once a week they play with other dogs in the neighborhood or at the very least go to petsmart to smell all the animals and treats! Here are some photos. Thank you again as these two precious puppies have totally rounded out our family. Sincerely, Koa, Hula, and Monkey (the cat) |
girlfriend (faith) - 2010
sasha - 2010
We got back home, she could not wait to get inside the house. I figured with all the times she had been in different homes, she might have thought this is where she lived. Sasha said I wanna stay here! I gave her a big hug, looked at her in the eyes and told her she is NOT going any where, this is HOME FOREVER, she started giving me kisses. The kids played with her outside, she ran and when ready she sat next to the door like telling me I'm done playing wanna go inside MY HOME!!!!

kismet (asher) - 2010
Kismett has adapted so well to his forever home. He is such a beautiful boy, playful, friendly and loving. He and his “sister” Shiva and “brother” Ambrose spend hours playing in their yard. Kissy’s favorite game is chasing bugs.
Thank you for letting us adopt this wonderful guy, to us he is such a success story! |
Thunder (hero) - 2009
Here is an update from his new home: He is doing really well. We went to our first training class on dogs next week and he is SUPER smart! It's amazing how quickly he learns. Abby has trained him to wait for his dinner with it sitting right in front of him with only a word and a hand signal.
He went camping with us for two update from his new home: He is doing really well. We went to our first training class on dinosaur chew toy kind of orientation. We are practicing what they suggested before the first class with around. He and our other dogs have actually become fairly friendly. Brie, the larger dog, doesn't really play with him but she occasionally licks his face and accepts a lick from him. One of Abby's friends has a Border Collie puppy about a month older than Thunder and we have had several play dates together. They were fast friends and I appreciate your concern for these dogs. You do a great service for them. We are very grateful and happy with Thunder. He and Abby are inseparable! |
Bridget - 2009
Thought I'd send over a pic I took of Bridget this afternoon. I going to make an appointment for next week to take her in. She's definitely gotten taller since we've had her, almost as tall as Niko, but I'm curious as to her exact numbers. We see how she does. She definitely keeps us on our toes but she's a great dog and we're really happy we have her. Thanks again for letting us keep her!
|
Paris - 2009
Here she is. The pics really don't do her justice. She is so gorgeous, and everyone at the vet just loves her. She is already Miss Popularity. They commented on how happy and sweet she is. We go together like peasand carrots. I love the love and affection I get from her every day all day, and I think she feels the same from us. Thank you so much! She is a gift from God. We will cherish her forever.

Caius - 2009
His new name is Caius (ky-us) which is from a fictional character in one of my favorite books who is incredibly strong and brave. Caius loves all of his new family members and friends although he's usually always at my side. He does not have a mean bone in his body, however, I have noticed him keeping a watchful eye on anyone and anything that comes near me. He loves going on jogs and hikes with me as well as getting some sleep on my canopy bed where he looks like royalty! He is only five months old right now, however, everyday he continues to grow into a beautiful boy (as everyone at the CTGSR knows he was always blessed with his looks!) When he comes up to the vet clinic with me, where I work, the staff loves to see his progress from when they first saw him straight out of the shelter. I love my new little buddy and am glad he ended up staying with me. We wanted to send y'all some pictures to show his progress and let y'all know how well he's doing!

Dakota - 2008
We renamed her Dakota, but just call her Koda for short. She is doing great. At first she was a little timid last night but we let them run around together and they worked it out. By the time we went to sleep they all your hard work with these dogs. Have a Merry Christmas and I will keep in touch and even send some pictures if I can.

Traveler - 2008
sonny - 2008
You will be amazed at how big he is now. He is 65 pounds already, but the sweetest and clumsiest dog you will ever meet. He thinks he is a lap dog! That is my doing of course, I think any dog is a lap dog. We have discovered that he will definitely be a protector. A friend went to my home when no one was home and Sonny was definitely in protect mode until he realized who he was. He is so smart, he has been a great help with his brother's training.

Penzi - 2008
Time has flown since we adopted Penelope Cruz back in January. We have since named her Penzi, which means love in Swahili, and a love dog she most certainly has proven to be. One of her favorite activities is morning belly rubs in bed. Penzi has proven to be a perfect compliment to our other dog Isha (meaning life). She likes to grab Isha's collar and tries drag her around. Penzi's laid back personality and often silly antics are a wonderful addition to our family. We love her very much.

Caesar - 2008
We changed Butch's name to Caesar. Justin always wanted a German Shepard named Caesar. Him and Odie are still getting use to each other. We caught them playing outside for a few minutes. He enjoys the yard and being able to roam in and out of the house. He likes to walk in circles around the house especially last night when it was bed time. All in all everything is great. I have attached a few pictures of his first night and morning here.

Sascha - 2008
She's settled in quite nicely, she & our other female absolutely love each other. Target is a 5 year old lab mix who has found her inner puppy thanks to Sascha, they run around the back yard until they both drop at least three times a day! They even pout when we let one out without the other. She is so happy, feisty and spunky, and has been exactly what we needed right now.
This past weekend was our annual optometry convention in Austin at the Renaissance Hotel in the Arboretum. They allow pets up to 40 pounds, so I took Sascha with me rather than board her since she is still learning so much & getting to know her routine. She was a doll no accidents in the room, got a lot of leash time, and a lot of new people & time, too. She loved the glass elevators, too. She would just stare out them fearlessly as we zip up and down. Ryan said it was funny to think of a rescue dog going from homeless to a 4 star hotel in a matter of weeks! She would prance through the lobby like she owned the place!

Zoe - 2008
Zoe is blending in beautifully here. My dogs are warming up to her and they have She also lays in all his favorite places. Knowing how perceptive dogs are, I think she knows what happened and is honoring him. I LOVE Zoe's personality. She is just great. I'm so glad we found each other. Thanks for hooking us up. I truly admire you for what you are doing for these dogs. Hope you have a wonderful week.

Eli - 2008
Eli is a pip...full of vim and vigor...his latest accomplishment has been learning to open the door...he stands up on his hind legs, and just as a human would, he brings his hand & down on the handle and pushes it down...unbelievable...what a smart dog! He knows how to sit and lay down, and when at the dog park, he never runs away, always stays near and comes when called. He LOVES between my legs when larger and older dogs get too wild in their play....it is very cute....I can almost hear him saying, Mommy, protect me! Watching him chase his tail in endless circles and then chewing on it when he does catch it, makes my daughter laugh uncontrollably...it is a hoot to see. About 3 more weeks and he will be a changed dog...literally...he is set to be neutered April we have sacrificed slippers and sneakers to the cause so as to spare furniture from his sharp little teeth! We LOVE him!we have sacrificed slippers and sneakers to the cause so as to spare furniture from his sharp little teeth! We LOVE him!

amigo duke - 2008
He has made so much improvement every week. He's settled down to the routine which makes him feel much more comfortable and safe. He even gets in his crate to relax on his own (this took a while). As long as Dan or I are around, he's content. We took him to the park this weekend and then on to PetSmart for some socialization. He's walking on a lead very well and this weekend mastered sit and down. Stay is still elusive because we have a very short attention span. Like every other Shepherd I've had, he's smart, easy to train, and has bonded quickly. We absolutely love him!

Cha-cha - 2008
It has been since April since I've spoken with you and Cha-cha has really grown. She is a that! ChaCha poops in one spot in the yard, which is really nice with kids running all around. She barks at that a lot! I did put good dog. We had trouble at first with some serious digging, but we put concrete blocks all along the fence line and that solved her through pull and choke herself. She does do a good job now. She loves running with me and walking and being with Cha-cha has really training and I'm glad I did. She is hard headed, but she does learn quickly. . ChaCha loves visitors and kids. She will follow me all around the house and talks to us with her paws. We learned quickly the things she tells us -- like when she wants out, wants to play, etc.
