Happy Tails!
We love hearing from our adopters.
Here are stories of our former dogs in their forver homes!
SAMUEL - Adopted 2018
Message from Samuel: This was my happy self coming home from the vet yesterday. I hate having my nails done, but I let them ... after they sedate me. I’m a super happy and healthy 117 lbs now (!!!) and very tall. All my playing and exercising has made me a real powerhouse. The best news is that they did another heartworm test and it came back negative. Again. Just like last time. Everyone here is so happy about that! I hope you’re taking care of other guys now. I’m so glad you took me in and let me wait to pick out the best family ever. Even the vet said they can see how much I love them. I jumped on the big man and smothered him with kisses when he came back to get me.

Ruger - adopted march 2018
Ruger having the best time ever in his new home! Complete with kids to love, a dog friend to play with, and even sleeping in the King and Queens bed! Lucky boy.
Samson - adopted december 2017
rosie - Adopted october 2017
Rosie was a stray that wandered up to the front door of a kind hearted person (Kelly) who took her in until she could find a home. Kelly posted Rosie's information via GSDRescue which is how I came across her. Matt helped me out with the logistics and by September Kelly was driving Rosie from Houston to my home in Midland. I had the weekend and took Monday off of work to give her time to get situated. She was such a sweet girl and learned the rules very quickly, a very smart girl! When I got home from my first day back at work I had a surprise waiting for me, it seemed Rosie had a pretty significant case of separation anxiety (pretty significant might be an understatement). So, after several talks with Kelly and time with a trainer we started working on what I worried might be "unfixable". With time, patience, and consistency Rosie slowly started adapting and now, two months later, she finally has a peaceful mind and is doing very well!!
Now that she has settled in we have been hitting the road for adventure! She loves to go and recently made an 11 hour trip to Colorado. Rosie is a dream to travel with and it was great having the company. We hiked, fished, and played in the snow for 4 days. If I had a dollar for every compliment we got while hiking trails and fishing about what a well behaved dog she was then Rosie would have enough money for all the Kongs in the world!!
Thank you all for the wonderful work you do! Thank you to Matt for the love of the path you are on and thank you to Kelly who was strong enough to bring this sweet girl to me after 7 weeks with her in her home.
From a very happy house in Midland

Odin - Adopted September 2017
Saying Odin is a gentle giant is an understatement! Not only is he good with my daughter but he is very careful around our dachshund. He was laying down and waited for her to come up to him and begin to lick each other faces. He is also very conscious of where he is stepping.
We have been on several walks about 2 or 3 blocks around the neighborhood, is is such a happy boy! Overall he is doing absolutely fantastic.
I can't image why no one would adopt him. He has no bad habits, and is an amazing addition to our family.
Thank you German Shepard Rescue of Central Texas for giving Odin a forever home!

Bowie - Adopted 2016
My boyfriend Tyler and I adopted Bowie from you in June 2016. I just thought I'd send an update! We live in Boston, MA now and she is extremely happy here. We walk several miles to and from work everyday (my job is extremely dog friendly-- there are three other dogs who are in regularly, sometimes more). She has tons of doggy friends in the area and loves chasing the geese, going on hikes in the mountains, and playing in the snow! She's been super healthy and happy and a true delight. Everyone who meets her falls in love immediately; even people who have dogs of their own are ready and to admit that she's the best pup they've ever met.
Thanks so much for taking her in and then adopting her out! I'm attaching a couple pictures in case you're interested.
Hope all is well,
Kat

Logan - Adopted September 2017
It's been about a month since we adopted Logan and brought him home with us. When I first saw his picture and Bio - I had a feeling about him. Even after looking and reading about other GSDs, our thoughts came back to Logan. I felt a connection and began the application process. We figured it would be complicated and long, but it went so surprisingly smooth and promising, that I feel it was just meant to be. He's been doing great and feeling more at home everyday. I'm seeing a healthy increase in his appetite which I'm so thrilled about. Plus, he loves his daily treats. We enjoy his company so much and love his energy. He is truly a puppy at heart and keeps us going and active.. He has a definite routine for playing. Logan loves to play and fetch ball and also enjoys his walks with me around the neighborhood and at the park daily. And although he is definitely high energy, he is also so well behaved, affectionate, intelligent, and eager to please at the same time. He is so very well trained and we give so much credit for this to Matt, his foster, for working with him with such patience, love, and dedication. He is still a little shy with new people at first, but always, slowly comes around and warms up to other family members. He is coming out of his shell and feeling more confident by the day. We've had a few other GSDs in the past who passed away of old age and illnesses and who grew up with our children and it sadly took us three years to grieve their loss. Thanks to GSD Rescue of Central Texas, we are now ecstatic to have Logan as part of our family. We just adore him! He is so loving, loyal, sweet, and such a cuddle bug. We are so grateful and lucky to be the ones to provide him with a forever home and family

Axel (Amigo Duke) - Adopted 2008 - Update 2017!
It’s been awhile since I’ve contacted you but I wanted to send a couple of pics of our boy who is now nine years old. We adopted Axel in July of 2008 at age six months and he is still going strong. I have raised several GSDs and he is amazing. Still acts like he’s two. We call him “Sassafras” because he constantly talks back when we tell him to “go sit on your rug” or “park it” (which pretty much means the same thing). I’ve raised many Shepherds and have never had one who lived much past ten years. As Axel approaches his ten year mark, we worry about what we’ll do when it’s his time. But, he is so unlike any GSD we’ve had before! He still races from one end of the house to the other, cutting and pivoting with a sharp “arf” before racing to the other end of the house. It’s like living with a puppy most of the time. He has been such a joy and we feel so fortunate to have found him. Just wanted to “check in” and let you know one of your success stories has turned out quite wonderfully for all of us. He is an awesome dog and so much a part of our home (and funny as hell). We love him completely. So glad we found your organization.
Athena - Adopted 2017
Miss Bat Ears (as we affectionately call her) is absolutely spoiled rotten and we love her to bits! she loves exploring her big back yard, going to Home Depot, and snuggling on the couch. Okay, maybe only for 30 minutes before she gets down. She is excited to have a new pack member in July.
Between renovating our duplex (Athena loves supervising) and working at Whole Foods with the most awesome team, we've been busy! But I really miss coming over and seeing all my friends at the GSD rescue. Please please keep me posted for events at Petsmart and others! I would love to come help and be an ambassador for the pups!
Feel free to share the update on Athena! See you soon, Hailey, Scott, and Athena

Maya - Adopted 2017
Annie,
We are proud to announce that as of March 30th, Maya is heartworm negative!! We are so excited to have killed off those parasites. She is a happy and healthy 66 lb dog.
She is such a joy and the first dog that we have had this is not my dog. She and Dave are best buddies. They go for a walk every morning and then she settles into to her chair in his office and keeps an eye out for what is going on outside. When she isn't sleeping (and snoring).
If you ever need anything, don't hesitate to ask as we are so grateful to you for saving her and getting her ready for her furever home with us.
Take Care!
Denise
P.S. Here are Dave and Maya snuggling with my Mom in the background

Nee-Ko (Hunter) - Adopted 2017
Here are a few more pictures of Hunter, now known as Nee-ko (meaning Brave and Intelligent)
(Our neighbors son is Hunter so things were getting confusing for this little man ... we decided on Nee-ko.)
We are having a blast on the beach in Galveston. Nee-ko is my step buddy and we are killing it with my Fitbit! We walk along the seawall, down on the beach and run like mad at the dog park. He loves anything soft and squishy ... including my couch pillows... but he is working hard on learning which toys are his! Beverly must be the dog whisperer because Nee-ko is so calm and well mannered for a 5-6 month puppy. He is just great on the leash, get along with our two older Chihuahuas, and wants to be loved on all the time! We are learning sit - stay and so far he makes it about 5 seconds, which is awesome for the first few times. My husband walks him in the evenings and cannot get over how terrific this little man is doing.
We are looking forward to many years together! Thank German Shepard Rescue!

Taze - Adopted 2017
Mom,
I was such a good girl on the three hour trip home. I did not get anxious or whine. I looked out the window some of the time and then took a nap. When we got to my new house, I got to go in the yard first. There are lots of trees for shade. Also some resident squirrels that were startled to see me. It is a big backyard, so lots of room to play ball. There was a new red Jolly ball waiting for me. It still has the rope. The neighbors came over to see me. I was a little hesitant of the man Larry at first, but he had a pocket full of treats, so now I like him. He played ball with me. Everyone petted me and told me I was nice and pretty. I had a good dinner.....same yummy food you give me. I slept in my new mom's room and never made a peep until morning. She has a crate in her room with a soft bed in it. She didn't say anything to me about the crate. She just let me find it. I crawled in and slept there part of the night. They have a really old cat named Lila. Lila sort of looked at me in disgust, but she let me sniff her. She smells like a cat. We will get along okay. I don't think Lila likes dogs that much, though. Today we are going to take my new grandma to the airport. I get to ride along. Then we are stopping at the vet office to get my Nexgard. And Mom, I have a new donut bed. Do you see me sitting in It? It is so comfy! My new mom really likes me. She says I am a good girl and I am pretty. She did not even mind that her car was full of dog hair. She is going to get me a pet door as soon as we pick one out. So, day one went pretty good. Love you. Taze

Referral Pup - Jessie (Austin) - Adopted 2017
Just a quick contact again to update you on Jessie/Austin. Austin has adjusted to ranch life with little challenge. He loves walking/running the trails through our land and really enjoys riding with the pack on the Kawasaki. All is well. Take care.
Moose - adopted 2016
My husband and I adopted Moose from the German Shepherd Rescue a little over a year ago. Since then, Moose has been involved in obedience training, rally classes, and pet therapy classes. Today he passed his evaluation to become a pet therapy dog and we will be working with a children's reading program to improve reading level for those that aren't quite at their grade level. Moose is not only super sweet but also extremely intelligent. He is so loved by not just our family but our entire neighborhood. Thanks goes to the rescue and Beverly!

Lockett - Adopted 2016
Thought you might like to see Locket up at the continental divide in Colorado. We moved here in the fall and we all love it.
This dog-- who you said loved to be outside-- has a great big yard, takes long hike up in the high country, goes mountain biking and has a best friend named Bella who lives down the street. We are all 100% in love with her and think she is perfect. And when we moved to Colorado we moved my parents in with us and they are over the moon about her also and she gives them lots of good therapy.
Every day she brings me so much joy. Thanks for letting us adopt her.

Cooper (tulo) - Adopted 2017
Hey there! We adopted Tulo-now cooper, last April (2016)
We have hardly informed you guys on how he is doing and such so I wanted to share some photos and let y'all know he's our best boy! He did get a little lonely when we brought him home, so after a few months we knew we had to rescue another pup for cooper to have a friend. And ever since then he's blossomed into such a great dog. We love him. He loves to swim in the springs at Barton, we go every week, he loves to run long distance and play with every dog he sees. He's super cuddly and has his own personality finally. Here are some pictures!

Cane (tango) - Adopted 2017
Thank you for finding me my forever Home! I love it here and I am so happy! My new Dad takes me to work with him and I love it!
Samuel - Adopted 2017
Laci (formerly Jenny) - Adopted 2017
I wanted to let you know that we will not need any more medications from you, as Jenny (now Laci) tested negative for heartworms at her recent vet visit. We will of course keep her on a preventative. Thank you again for rescuing our sweet girl! Attached is an updated picture.
Pepper Potts - ADOPTED 2017
She is doing very well. The day after she arrived at Starmark she was entered into the training program. Yes, she's a great dog to train. Shes very toy motivated so we're using that for narcotics detection and advanced obedience training. She is such a joy to have and train. (I often get a little too silly with her while training, it's just too much fun with her and it really keeps her motivated). Today, we did our first lesson in dock diving. She's not crazy about the water but I think she would follow me anywhere, our bond is pretty strong. I've attached a video and a couple pictures. In the picture with all the dogs in a circle, she's in the front right corner and we're practicing our group "Sit-Stay" exercise (she has to sit and stay for 3 minutes, surrounded by other dogs/distractions). In the picture of Pepper and I, we're playing fetch in the rain...everyone should play in the rain on Monday mornings, haha!
I'm so happy that you allowed me to become her "forever mom", thank you!!!

Bear (Scout) - Adopted 2017
Here is happy Boy Scout, quick video too. I call him Bear now.
Just thought I'd drop in & give a quick update on Scout. He could not be doing better, seems and acts as health as a horse. He has gained 18 pounds since I adopted him, all of it muscle. When he arrived, he nearly escaped out the 7" gap between the bars at the front gate (luckily I grabbed him). Now his head won't fit through! He was such a cute puppy, but now he is a very handsome dog, all grown up. He has his routine & can somehow tell time down to the minute. We have worked on a lot of training & obedience. He is more than pleased to get out there and have his mind workout. Then, of course, we play fetch. Then later we play fetch. Then we play fetch again. :) He finished his 14 days of anti-biotics last week. So at the 14 day mark, we will start another round. He shows no symptoms (actually never has) like coughing or wheezing. I even check his HR and heart rhythm from time to time. Anyway, here are some recent pics of my pretty boy. First pic is to show how little he really was. The last....to show how spoiled he is! Thanks again for all you do. Matt |
Gabby - Adopted 2017
Good morning Miss Anne, this is Gabby.

Thank You for all your hard work. I owe it all to you Miss Anne. It's only been two days in my new home and she is so loving so caring and so understanding. Miss Anne you are Amazing I will Love You Forever.......Gabby |
Patches (henry) - Adopted 2014
Just a quick hello. Patches, now Henry, is a happy boy. He's learning to be a running partner to my husband and loves the trails. He's the star of his puppy training class and a fast learner. He loves the park and the car and his toys and treats and everyone he meets. Though his lacrosse ball (gifted from his foster family) is still his favorite!
The vet said he's going to be a big boy. I'll send more pics as he grows. |
rain - adopted 2014
roc - Adopted 2014
|
Roc is getting along great with our other dog, Gracie, although he trying desperately to be the alpha dog. It's quite challenging trying to train a new puppy when my other dog thinks she is being disciplined. She doesn't have an aggressive bone in her body - she lets him take her toys, go in her bed, eat her food, drink her water, etc. We have to watch him constantly and tell him where his bowls are!!! But, they are getting along quite well. He is walking better on a leash now although he tries desperately to keep up with Gracie - he wants to be in the front! And he weaves back and forth constantly. I can't wait to take him to puppy training! He's quite good in his kennel and knows to go to the bathroom outside. He's a love, though - he LOVES to be held. We pick him up constantly because we won't be able to do so in another couple of weeks!
|
Rex (Simon) - Adopted 2010
|
We renamed Simon. His new name is Rex! He is so happy and very intelligent! He is already using the doggie door and has had no accidents. He is such a playful little dog and very well behaved. He is getting sit and lay down. We are working on stay and so far he is doing wonderful. Today he went to the groomer for a bath and the groomer wanted to keep him! Rex and my other dog are getting a long well. We are very excited and happy to have him in our home and as part of our family.
|
Bella (cinnamon) - adopted 2010
Bella is a star !! - Tomorrow will be week 3 since we took her to ATA for initial physical for heartworm -they said it would be about 3 weeks - they are swamped with heartworm around - she is so affectionate -sometimes we get down on her bed with her and bunch scatterd all over--- her poor little stuffed lamb has seen better days - every once in a while we catch Rosie sneaking off with it - or trying to sneak - it is hard with that baa baa baa going all through the house! All 3 dogs are in my office right now sleeping away --- and did I mention she can SNORE !!!!
|
Ryder - adopted 2010
I love this puppy dog! I was slow to get his walk in this morning. I was cleaning my glasses and he picked up my shorts and tossed them at me! Come visit. Hope all is well!
I wanted to give you an update on Ryder “the Super Dog.” I cannot imagine the last two and a half years of my life without this sweet thing. EVERYBODY loves him. Every once in a while he is a tad shy but people are constantly petting him and loving on him. If we are out on a walk and there is somebody he hasn’t met, he now approaches to a point and then waits for an invitation for a head scratch. Of course, if it is gal, he needs no invitation. He has sort of a little closed mouth smile that is hilarious and then he has his full on grin. You can see a happy optimism in his face. He is indifferent to dog parks and not all that in to other dogs though he gets along fine with them. He is more into doing his own thing – and more and more that way all the time. I think he really prefers to hang out with people though he certainly is no longer clingy at all (though I kinda wish he was….) He won’t eat food off the floor and if I try to hand him something he doesn’t like, he will turn his head off to the left every time – pretty funny. (BTW he does like strawberry licorice and cheetos…I know, I know…and refuses all vegetables.) He has so much personality and a very distinct one at that. He is still at or about a healthy 47 pounds. I can’t imagine him at the 15 or so pounds he weighed when found and his hair is incredibly soft. He likes visitors! |
hana (ebony) - adopted 2010
I just wanted to send you a little update on Hana. We had our first official family hike and bike together on Sunday...and it was fun. I think I mentioned it to you on the phone earlier in the week, but I wanted to make sure you got to see the photo. Everyone is doing well and Hana is such a joy! I believe she is still grieving her loss of you and the pack, but I hope all our work with each other will soon make the transition a successful one. I know it is going to take time to anchor a real bond, and we are all in this for the long haul.
|
Radar and I are having a blast together! We've been jogging most mornings and playing soccer/tennis at night. To my utter amazement Radar can catch a soccer ball(youth sized) in his mouth while running at full speed. It is now our preferred way play. We went to the vet the first week and got him up to date on all his shots/heart worm/flea meds. He and Ben are playing like buddies and everything is going smoothly.
|
Cha-Cha - Adopted 2008
It has been since April since I've spoken with you and Cha-cha has really grown. She is a that! ChaCha poops in one spot in the yard, which is really nice with kids running all around. She barks at that a lot! I did put good dog. We had trouble at first with some serious digging, but we put concrete blocks all along the fence line and that solved her through pull and choke herself. She does do a good job now. She loves running with me and walking and being with Cha-cha has really training and I'm glad I did. She is hard headed, but she does learn quickly. . ChaCha loves visitors and kids. She will follow me all around the house and talks to us with her paws. We learned quickly the things she tells us -- like when she wants out, wants to play, etc.

Amigo Duke
He has made so much improvement every week. He's settled down to the routine which makes him feel much more comfortable and safe. He even gets in his crate to relax on his own (this took a while). As long as Dan or I are around, he's content. We took him to the park this weekend and then on to PetSmart for some socialization. He's walking on a lead very well and this weekend mastered sit and down. Stay is still elusive because we have a very short attention span. Like every other Shepherd I've had, he's smart, easy to train, and has bonded quickly. We absolutely love him!

Eli - Adoted 2008
Eli is a pip...full of vim and vigor...his latest accomplishment has been learning to open the door...he stands up on his hind legs, and just as a human would, he brings his hand & down on the handle and pushes it down...unbelievable...what a smart dog! He knows how to sit and lay down, and when at the dog park, he never runs away, always stays near and comes when called. He LOVES between my legs when larger and older dogs get too wild in their play....it is very cute....I can almost hear him saying, Mommy, protect me! Watching him chase his tail in endless circles and then chewing on it when he does catch it, makes my daughter laugh uncontrollably...it is a hoot to see. About 3 more weeks and he will be a changed dog...literally...he is set to be neutered April we have sacrificed slippers and sneakers to the cause so as to spare furniture from his sharp little teeth! We LOVE him!we have sacrificed slippers and sneakers to the cause so as to spare furniture from his sharp little teeth! We LOVE him!

Zoe - Adopted 2008
Zoe is blending in beautifully here. My dogs are warming up to her and they have She also lays in all his favorite places. Knowing how perceptive dogs are, I think she knows what happened and is honoring him. I LOVE Zoe's personality. She is just great. I'm so glad we found each other. Thanks for hooking us up. I truly admire you for what you are doing for these dogs. Hope you have a wonderful week.

CAEsar (Butch Cassiday) - Adopted 2008
We changed Butch's name to Caesar. Justin always wanted a German Shepard named Caesar. Him and Odie are still getting use to each other. We caught them playing outside for a few minutes. He enjoys the yard and being able to roam in and out of the house. He likes to walk in circles around the house especially last night when it was bed time. All in all everything is great. I have attached a few pictures of his first night and morning here.
|
Penzi (Penelope Cruz) - Adopted 2008
Time has flown since we adopted Penelope Cruz back in January. We have since named her Penzi, which means love in Swahili, and a love dog she most certainly has proven to be. One of her favorite activities is morning belly rubs in bed. Penzi has proven to be a perfect compliment to our other dog Isha (meaning life). She likes to grab Isha's collar and tries drag her around. Penzi's laid back personality and often silly antics are a wonderful addition to our family. We love her very much.
|
Sascha - Adopted 2008
She's settled in quite nicely, she & our other female absolutely love each other. Target is a 5 year old lab mix who has found her inner puppy thanks to Sascha, they run around the back yard until they both drop at least three times a day! They even pout when we let one out without the other. She is so happy, feisty and spunky, and has been exactly what we needed right now.
This past weekend was our annual optometry convention in Austin at the Renaissance Hotel in the Arboretum. They allow pets up to 40 pounds, so I took Sascha with me rather than board her since she is still learning so much & getting to know her routine. She was a doll no accidents in the room, got a lot of leash time, and a lot of new people & time, too. She loved the glass elevators, too. She would just stare out them fearlessly as we zip up and down. Ryan said it was funny to think of a rescue dog going from homeless to a 4 star hotel in a matter of weeks! She would prance through the lobby like she owned the place!

Sonny - Adopted 2008
You will be amazed at how big he is now. He is 65 pounds already, but the sweetest and clumsiest dog you will ever meet. He thinks he is a lap dog! That is my doing of course, I think any dog is a lap dog. We have discovered that he will definitely be a protector. A friend went to my home when no one was home and Sonny was definitely in protect mode until he realized who he was. He is so smart, he has been a great help with his brother's training.

dakota (roleX) - Adopted 2008
We renamed her Dakota, but just call her Koda for short. She is doing great. At first she was a little timid last night but we let them run around together and they worked it out. By the time we went to sleep they all your hard work with these dogs. Have a Merry Christmas and I will keep in touch and even send some pictures if I can.
