Meet Willow
My name is Willow and I’m a gorgeous red and black GSD. I was found near a busy highway in 100 degree heat. My Foster Mom says I'm pretty gentle and very loving. When I first got here, I used my svelte 68 lbs. to be kind of pushy. Foster Mom has taught and continues to teach me respectful boundaries and I learn quick especially for treats!!!
I love being petted, even my paws! I'm a very easy going gurl and learn quickly on what I'm allowed to do and not do. I get along with all humans and usually take treats gently. I am getting lots of treats because I’m smart. Even the Veterinarian named Dr. Dan was impressed with how wonderful I was at my check up. I am good with older children and would likely be cool with smaller ones too if given a chance to adjust.
I am kind of velcro with Foster Mom and as a typical German Shepherd, I tend to want to herd or get her to follow me which can be tricky if she wants to go one way and I thought we were going the other way. If you love GSDs, you should be familiar with this and it shouldn’t be weird at all. ShepHERD, it’s literally in our name.
I do know my name and my ears perk when I hear it. For example, “Willow Move" means “hey, move over house hippo, I’m going that direction”. I also know, "Uh Uh" or "No" or "Come" or "Hungry Hungry Hippo Time!" That's my favorite words cuz I know it's time to eat!
I show friendly behavior and interest when meeting new dogs. I also live with 2 foster sisters, a young fun one and an older grumpy one. I also met two additional German Shepherds when me and my foster sisters went for a walk, Lulu and “the big boy one, who was handsome and smelled nice but his name I didn’t catch”. I didn’t pull on my leash and it was a great walk!
I try to play gently with dogs, but can get rambunctious so I hope your dog enjoys that or just clap your hands and tell me to chill. I love to run and play and skip in the yard and play with my young foster sister! The old….ooooops…big foster sister doesn’t enjoy play so I know to leave her be, I’m that smart and intuitive.
One of my temp Foster Homes had a cat and I was interested in the cat from 2-3 feet away. I also have an intense focus on the squirrels running around, but so does my foster sister! We don't do anything except do the German Shepherd alert and stare. So if you have a cat, it might work, but would really need more testing to determine.
I get worried during thunderstorms. I love to go nite-nite on a big pillow next to Foster Mom’s bed. I stay there all night till morning potty time. But if she leaves during the day, I am crated “just in case”.
Another common GSD quality, I am a really good watch dog! When I see humans and dogs walk by our house, I join in with my 2 foster sisters and alert foster Mom that there is stranger danger!
I am potty trained and eat salmon based food to help keep my skin happy. Foster Mom also keeps my body and mind happy by taking me on long walks. I’m not a hyper dog and also enjoy hanging out and exploring the yard. I’m not really a jogging type of girl. More of a leisurely stroll and sniff pace.
I would be willing to do obedience training with you to learn more about good girl words. I just really want to be your dog and best friend.
