Re-homing Your Dog
Please read before contacting us about re-homing your dog.
If you are unable to keep your German Shepherd and would like our assistance in placing him (or her) in a new home there are some things you should know and consider:
Our goal is to rescue potential adoptable dogs from shelters or owner surrenders and re-home them in forever homes. If you are giving your dog up due to dangerous or slightly aggressive behavior issues a rescue can not solve those issues and make him or her adoptable to another family. If yourno longer willing to take the risk anymore why should a different family?
We are not a training facility nor do we have the resources to save every dog. Your dog must be evaluated and deemed adoptable by our board before we accept them in our group. Please do not assume they are adoptable or not adoptable- we will make that decision. We would like to know all the things you have tried to save this dog and keep it as a family member. This information can help share vital resources we may have in helping you in avenues you have yet to try.
After contact with you regarding your dog we may ask you to foster your dog until we can find room for him or her in our foster group. This time frame may vary from a week to a month or more. We will ask you to provide shot records, proof of spay or neutering and any other relevant papers in your dog's history. Puppies may not have same above criteria.
We do not charge an owner surrender fee but donations are gladly accepted and appreciated. It costs money to do what we do and what we are doing is assisting you in a difficult and emotional situation; placement of a family member. Please do not contact us if you have less than a week to re-home your dog. This does not allow us time to find a suitable place for your dog.
Lastly, if we are unable to help you for whatever reason and you find another person to take in your dog please consider requiring at least a vet reference from your potential adopter. There are very sad scenarios in which your dog could end up being a part of if given to the wrong person who says all the right things. They could end up…
-using dogs to be bait in a dog fighting ring
-being left outdoors 100% of the time with no socialization or human interaction
-used as junkyard or guard dogs
-used as lab animals in medical experiments
-used as breeders in a puppy mill
-as a hoarders latest collection
Please see the ASPCA website for more help on re-homing your dog.
Running a legitimate rescue is very expensive, time consuming, and real rescues don't have to go looking for or soliciting dogs; we always have far more than we can rescue. Be careful if you are handing your dog over to anyone other than a real rescue. This breed of dog would more than likely have laid its life down for you if things had been different in its early training and care.
If you have read this and feel like we can help you then please complete the information below and email it to our intake coordinator. It is very important you include the information we ask for. Please give us at least 48 hours to get back with you. Feel free to contact us again if we have not responded after 48 hours. Please keep in mind we are all volunteers and most of us work full time jobs. We are very busy dealing with dogs from all over the US, trying to help those dogs in need to get the life they deserve.
