I put all the toys you gave me in his crate so he'd know it was his safe place. When we went to bed, I gave him a bully stick and he went right into his crate for the night. He was a perfect gentleman in his crate too, not a peep all night.
Just wanted to send you an update on Butch/Parker. We've renamed him Blake and he is already responding to his new name. He is an AMAZING dog! But you already knew that. He is so intelligent and sweet and well behaved. He's completely stolen our hearts!
It only took a few minutes yesterday to teach him to use the dog door. He hasn't figure out that he doesn't need permission to use it yet but we're working on that. He knows so many commands already (Sit, Lay Down, Stay, Come, Shake) and loves to work for treats. He learned very quickly to heal during walks too.
Here is Blake in his new backyard. He hasn't figured out what to think about the pool yet.
We could not be happier for Knox! He is going to be absolutely spoiled. Their yard was great, fully fenced and had a huge 375 year old Oak Tree in the back yard. The kids have a play set and a great deck. Knox loved exploring their yard. Their kids are so knowledgable about dogs and were calm around Knox - really great for 4 kids! The parents are super and we could tell that Knox will be so loved and cared for like he was another child. The husband is excited to have a running buddy, but says that Knox will have to break him in gently. hehe!
Knox absolutely LOVED their 5 year old girl. He immediately went to her - he'd picked her. Their 11 year old is just like a dog whisperer. He is so in tune with dogs and their needs. He has really wanted a dog to play fetch with, and Knox is happy to play fetch for hours! Their other two boys were a little shy, but so loved meeting Knox. When we told them that Knox will ring a bell to say he wants to go outside they were impressed and wanted to see! They all were happy to play and run with Knox outside. They threw a big ball for Knox and he loved jumping around after it! He was making all of them laugh with his funny antics! Knox and their current dog, Koda, got along so well. Koda is older, but still managed to play with Knox in the yard and gave him a good run! They were so good together. It was very sweet. They were kissing each other and sharing treats.
Knox did quite well with their cats, too. One of their cats, Cheddar, is very dog friendly. He cooperated with us when we introduced Knox. He came out of the crate and hung out in the living room. Knox barked at him, but it was a playful bark. He kept play bowing to Cheddar. Cheddar was okay with it and only told Knox off a couple of times, and when he did Knox stepped back and was more scared of him! The whole family was very vigilant and made sure that Knox was redirected when he was barking at Cheddar. I don't doubt that in a few days Knox will have figured out that the cats are boring and there's so much other stuff to do than bother them. :) They didn't seem worried about it at all.
We are so happy for Knox. He has found a perfect forever home with this family! Also, the kids get the first 3 days of February off from school because of teacher training, so they'll all be home to play and bond with Knox until Thursday! YAY! It could not be more perfect! I literally jumped for joy when I left their house!
