Umi - I'm a large boy with an even bigger heart! I get along great with cats but thrive
on attention from my foster humans, I think I might be part human myself. I currently
live with 4 other dogs and 2 cats. I could care less about the other dogs as long as my
foster humans are constantly showering me with affection, even if it's just touching me
with their feet while relaxing on the couch. I love to snuggle and I'm a scratch, which is
quite often.
I'm about 5 years old and entirely housebroken. I'm a very smart boy and know sit,
stay and shake and even though I'm stubborn sometimes, I'll always do my tricks for a
treat! I do great on a leash and love to go on walks and rides in the car with the
windows down. I would prefer to be an only dog in a house with a kid or two, but would
do fine in a house with another older dog. I have been through a lot in the past 6
months after spending most of it in shelters and undergoing heartworm treatment; I'm
ready to find my forever family.

Marley is a smart and happy 2 year old spayed female Shepherd/Rhodesian Ridge back mix. She likes to be
outside but is well behaved indoors, also. She could probably leap over my 4 ft fence but so far has not made
She is always willing to play tug-of-war with a rope toy, or go for a walk. She could use more leash training, but
is responsive to the little training we have given her. She knows 'sit', 'stay', 'down', and 'high five'. She gets
along with my ancient male toy poodle allowing him to be the 'top dog', with 4 dogs for about 10 days. She has
since gone back to her usual well adjusted personality, but does not let my little dog eat out of her bowl
(justifiably). I also have two cats. One has Marley completely fooled, and she gives him a wide berth. The
other cat has not learned to stand his ground, so he mostly just avoids Marley. Marley will eat the cat's food,
so I have to feed them where she can't get to their bowls.
Marley would like to rid our yard of squirrels and toads, but these critters are just not cooperating. She will
chase and bark at the squirrels, and will try to dig up the toads. Once the toads come out at night, she is a
little frightened of them.
hose. She also shows some fear of random people who just want to talk to her or pet her. She has been a
good watch dog by barking at passers-by, but she will quiet down when told to do so. Since she is fairly large
and active, I would not recommend a home with toddlers or preschoolers just because her exuberance could
knock them down.
Marley had been running loose in the neighborhood for several months when we rescued her. The owners
were not willing to provide a safe environment for her, or provide for her basic needs. She was
undernourished and has evidence of injuries. She was treated for hookworms and a bacterial ear infection
when we rescued her. She also had lost some fur around her neck from a collar that had been too tight. She
has now gained weight, and all her fur has grown in. Her ear infection is gone and she is heartworm-free.
We live in Hyde Park, in central Austin. I can be reached at any of these numbers.

Ted - Ted is a male neutered German Sheppard, approx 7-8 years of age. He is not food
aggressive or human aggressive. I have only introduced him so far to one of my dogs, a spayed
female, and he was fine. I took him to Dr. Lamar Crossland. Lamar ran a fecal and found no
parasites. He seems to be in ok health, but is emaciated (weighs 77 and is approx 30 pounds or
more under weight) and is extremely sore of foot. Hips seem to be okay, he can jump into the
back seat of a four wheel drive Ford 250. He reacted favorably to children at the vet clinic. As he
gets stronger he gets friendlier. He hates to be left alone. He wants to be with people. He
spends a large part of the day soaking his feet in the baby pools I put in the yard with him. He as
holes and worn spots on his pads.
For more information about Ted, please call Alvi Alford at home 830-693-7600 or Lou at
830-798-0300.
Roger - This guy is a WONDERFUL companion dog. The family adopting him must agree to have
Roger in the home with the family and not locked away in some room and home near a person with
his favorite stuffed toy between his two front legs. Walking outside he stays very near and when you
want to go back inside Roger is right behind you. Roger is living inside with one of our German
Shepherds (named Jada) and is getting along fine with her. Actually Roger, much smaller than Jada,
will steal her toys right out from under her nose.
Roger is Heartworm Positive and we started him on monthly Heartgard when we first took him in. The
follow up Vet exam and Heartworm test showed that the monthly Heartgard Preventative Medication is
the best course of treatment for Roger. His blood has no juvenile Heartworms present and the adult
Heartworms will slowly die off during the next year with just the normal monthly preventative
medication so no other procedure needs to be done.
Two different Vets remarked Roger looks like a Malinois Belgian Shepherd and looking on the net we
found pictures of pure bloods that look very similar to Roger. We feel Roger may be a pure blood
Malinois but you can never be sure. In any event Roger is worth it. He is so affectionate that you can't
help but to love him right back. :) Again, Roger is not an overly active dog. He is a medium sized adult
pet and he thrives in a situation where he can take it easy and walk with or lay around with his
"Human". He does get along with other dogs but does not get into pushing and pulling games with
them.
Roger will go to a family where he can be a companion beside his human and have a space to lay his
favorite toy.

Sweet, sweet Ocasta is nicely trained and ready for a forever home. He gets along very well with other
dogs, and recently enjoyed the opportunity to have a romping good time
playing in the yard with a third-grade boy. He loves to go to the pet sitter's house where there is a young
lab mix to play with.
Ocasta is affectionate and gentle. He rides well in the car and easily loads up. Oakie is well-behaved in the
house and in the yard as well, when he stays outside with a doggie
friend. Left alone, he may try to go under the fence or over a very short fence to visit neighbor dogs. He
walks well on a leash and also sits patiently for attention and treats. He is anxious to please, and will ask
politely for a game of tugging on a rope toy or chasing a ball. Better yet, he enjoys a spirited run with
another dog of his age and size. He enjoys chewing on his rawhide bones and is trustworthy not to chew up
anything that does not belong to him.
He enjoys companionship a great deal and needs a buddy when his humans are away. He will be a great
playmate for an active dog. The shelter estimated Oakie's age at 6 years, but he has the playful
exuberance of a 3-4 yr old dog. Oakie is very healthy, neutered, on heartworm preventative, and recently
passed his annual exam with flying colors. He was a super patient.
Please call or email for an adoption application. After vet and personal reference checks are done, a
personal appointment to meet Ocasta will then be set up. A home visit is made prior to adoption. The
adoption fee for Ocasta is $150 and an adoption contract must be signed.

Description:
Hey there, my name is Gabby! I am rambunctious, lively and I love to play! I was rescued by a
concerned citizen who found me roaming on her property with my brother, Gibson. I live with my foster
Memaw and her dogs. I also am around small children when my Memaw babysits them. Memaw says I
can't jump on them, but I get really excited - I am learning though and trying really hard to be good. The
GPMR volunteers say that I can go to a home with older children, which I am very excited about! I am
crate trained and I am proud to say that I have NEVER pottied in the house! I love to play with other
dogs and with people, especially playing ball. I still am learning how to snuggle and be loved on. I get
really scared when someone reaches down to pet me too fast. I am warming up quickly, though and
learning that my people are not out to get me. I am very smart - I learned how to sit in one evening! I
would really love to go to a busy home that can entertain me as well as show me how to love.
UPDATE 12/13/08: I have gotten used to living in a home now and I love it! I am around children and
small dogs all day. My hobbies include playing with stuffed animals, sunbathing and walks. I understand
how to cuddle now and I am not so skittish anymore. I am still working on not jumping on people, but I
get better and better everyday. Now when someone greets me, I usually sit first unless they get me
really excited, then I can't help myself and I jump. I am learning very quickly and getting big fast! I am
looking for a home that I can grow up in and I can be included in family time.
